What’s in a Green Bag?

All StreetWorks outreach workers carry a green canvas bag adorned with the group logo (which is in fact, a picture of the bag itself emptied of all contents).

What is all that stuff? How does it assist us in outreach to homeless youth? The answer is: it varies. We carry different supplies depending on the season and the areas we are serving.

The bag will often have hygiene items like deodorant, nail clippers, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap, laundry detergent, razors, shaving cream, toothbrush, toothpaste, hand sanitizer, feminine hygiene supplies, combs, and floss. Safe sex supplies are a standard – usually condoms, lube, and dental dams.

Sometimes we carry useful supplies for living such as duct tape, ponchos, matches, first aid kits, socks, underwear and t-shirts.

Last but not least, we have informational resources like the “Our Guide” brochure, or the “Handbook of the Streets” for homeless adults in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
