Where to Find Storage Lockers When You’re Homeless

Being homeless means you have nowhere to put your stuff. A storage locker can help keep things safe, but you’ll want to find one that is secure, accessible and low cost.

Here are some options:

Store Your Stuff at Drop in Centers

Free storage lockers are available if you’re accessing programs from YouthLink. You’ll need to sign a storage agreement and check in regularly (within 30 days) to maintain access to the locker.

SafeZone / St. Paul

SafeZone in St. Paul usually has large lockers open that you can use for free. When these lockers are full, they also have some smaller lockers that may work for you.

To reserve a locker, you will need to go through their intake process and then sign a locker agreement. As long as you are under 21 and check in at SafeZone regularly, you can store your property there.

Hope4Youth / Anoka

At Hope4Youth in Anoka, you can store your belongings in a secure bin, which is about the size of a large suitcase. There’s no cost or defined time limit on storage, but you must be in their program if you want to store things there for a long term.

Pay for Self Storage Facilities

At about 50 dollars per month, a 5×5 unit is probably the cheapest option for self storage. Bring your own lock and boxes to keep costs down, and review prices online before you go to the facility.

Check local companies like Public StorageU-Haul, and Acorn Mini Storage for the nearest location and lowest price.

Ask a Friend or Relative

Another option is to ask a trusted friend or relative to keep your things safe for a while. Tell them about your situation and politely ask if you can store a few items in their home.
